Pengaruh keberadaan Universitas Kristen Petra terhadap nilai properti di sekitarnya

Perkembangan properti di Siwalankerto terus meningkat setiap tahunnya. Hal ini berkaitan erat dengan gedung P kampus Universitas Kristen Petra sebagai tolok ukur penelitian, yang mengakibatkan bertambahnya jumlah mahasiswa/i, pertambahan jurusan, dan pertambahan space. Penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk mengamati pengaruh gedung P kampus Universitas Kristen Petra terhadap nilai properti disekitarnya dari tahun 1998- 2002 dan faktor-faktor lain yang diperkirakan ikut mempengaruhi. Dari analisa dan uji-uji yang ada dapat dicermati bahwa perkembangan nilai properti didaerah Siwalankerto dan sekitarnya dalam radius 1 kilometer dari gedung P kampus Universitas Kristen Petra sebagai tolok ukur, sangat dipengaruhi oleh keberadaan kampus Universitas Kristern Petra.

A Study of code-mixing among Banjarese, Javanese, Makassarese, and Ambonese in Siwalankerto Timur I/3, a boarding house

Indonesia is a multicultural society whose linguistic background varies. Each ethnic group has his own culture and has his own way of talking. In this research, the writer tries to investigate the problem of communication, which there may have a different referent between the speaker and listener. The writer uses the theory of discourse in collecting the data, sociolinguistic about code-mixing and Semantic about the referents of the words. The writer finds that the boarders of green house usually produce code-mixings that have a same lexicon but different meaning. The main code of the code-mixing utterances is Indonesian language. There are four kinds of code-mixing utterances, Indonesian-Javanese (I-J), Indonesian-Makassarese (I-M), Indonesian-Banjarese (I-B), and Indonesian-Ambonese (I-A). In Conclusion, The misunderstanding occurs whenever the speaker or the listener mixes the official language and their vernacular language

Casual speech style used by female students of Petra Christian University while gossiping in their boarding house

As her fulfillment of one of the requirements for the degree of Sarjana S-1, the thesis writer takes an analysis on the characteristics of casual speech style used by female students while gossiping in their boarding house. The reason why the writer choose casual speech style as the topic of her research is because casual speech style is commonly used in daily interaction rather than other kinds of speech styles such as frozen, formal, consultative and intimate. The writer choose female students as her source of data connected with the activity of gossiping because gossiping is known as female talk. The writer wants to find out what kinds of characteristics of casual speech styles that are used by the students and the highest occurrence among the characteristics that are used. The purpose of her research is to find out the characteristic that is commonly used by female students in their activity of gossiping. In conducting her research, the writer uses tape recorder to get the data. She records female conversations in her boarding house when they were gossiping. It was done in order to get the data being recorded accurately and naturally. In classifying the data, the writer uses the theory of Martin Joos. She also uses Allan Bell and Esther Kuntjara as the additional information. The discussion can be seen in detail in the second chapter. The result of the analysis finds that all of the characteristics of casual speech style, namely, ellipsis, local dialect form and slang are used in the activity of gossiping. Local dialect form found in gossiping between female students because they used Indonesian with the mixture of Javanese. From the theory by Kuntjara, local dialect form is usually used in Indonesian daily conversation. Actually, local dialect form is not classified as one of the characteristics of casual speech style based on the theory by Joos (1976). It can be conclude that actually in Indonesia, the theory by Joos can not be used in identify the characteristics of casual speech styles because Indonesian people tend to use local dialect form rather than other characteristics From the data, we can see that the highest occurrence of characteristics of casual speech style is local dialect form.

Kebutuhan akan tempat berteduh (kos) merupakan kebutuhan utama bagi mahasiswa yang berasal dari luar Surabaya dan tidak mempunyai tempat tinggal tetap selama menempuh perkuliahan di Universitas Kristen Petra. Kos yang dapat memenuhi kebutuhan dan kos yang sehat adalah tujuan utama untuk kelancaran proses perkuliahan. Ada dua faktor yang mempengaruhi perilaku mahasiswa Universitas Kristen Petra dalam keputusan pembelian jasa kos, yaitu faktor internal dan faktor eksternal. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Populasi penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa Universitas Kristen Petra yang menggunakan jasa kos di wilayah “padang pasir”. Kos berarti tinggal ditempat orang lain dengan atau tanpa makan dengan membayar setiap bulannya.Bila dilihat dari karakteristik tempat kos maka kos merupakan usaha jasa. Tempat kos saat ini dipilih sebagai usaha yang mampu memberikan keuntungan secara financial, sehingga saat ini dapat dilihat perkembangan tempat kos yang cukup pesat. Keberadaan tempat kos didaerah Universitas ini pada awalnya karena permintaan dari mahasiswa yang berasal dari luar pulau atau kota dan tidak memiliki tempat tinggal sehingga memutuskan untuk kos agar mempermudah kegiatan sekolah. Penulis memilih dua Universitas swasta di Surabaya yang memiliki tingkat akreditas yang baik, dan mahasiswanya memiliki latar belakang ekonomi dari keluarga menengah keatas yakni Universitas Kristen Petra(UK.Petra) dan Universitas Surabaya ( Ubaya ). Dari dua Universitas ini akan dipilih mahasiswa yang merupakan penghuni kos dan akan diberikan pertanyaan seputar tempat kos mereka. Apa ada pengaruh harga kos terhadap pemilihan tempat kos bagi mahasiswa UK.Petra dibandingkan Ubaya, apa ada pengaruh lokasi kos terhadap pemilihan tempat kos bagi mahasiswa UK.Petra dibandingkan Ubaya, dan apa ada pengaruh penyediaan fasilitas terhadap pemilihan tempat kos bagi mahasiswa UK.Petra dibandingkan Ubaya. Semua perbandingan tersebut melihat pula pada jenis kelamin responden dan uang saku perbulan. Penulis beranggapan bahwa pemilik kos perlu mengetahui informasi tepat guna bagi kelangsungan usahanya. Untuk mengukur hasil jawaban responden, penulis menggunakan alat ukur anova two way . Dari hasil penelitian terlihat bahwa adanya pengaruh harga, loksi dan fasilitas dalam memilih tempat kos bagi mahasiswa UK.Petra dan Ubaya.

Turn taking strategies and dominant speaker in females’ chatting at the boarding house

In a conversation, there is always turn taking. It means that there is always a shift of speakers. Chatting is one of the types of conversations in informal situation, which is used a lot of turn taking. This study analyzed the turn taking strategy, which is mostly used by females at the boarding house and how the mechanism of that strategy was used. Besides, it also analyzed on the dominant speakers in chatting and the reasons why they used that strategy. The data were obtained through recording the subjects at the boarding house while they were chatting for a half-hour. The data then were analyzed by classifying the turn taking strategy according to Stenstorm (1994). The findings show that the females mostly used Taking Over. The next strategy, which occurred, was Starting Up, while Interrupting occurred the least. The findings also show that there were three dominant speakers who dominated in the conversation.
